Red Frog Beach

Red Frog Beach is a wide, two-section beach generally reached by hiking across Isla Bastimentos, although it can also be reached by boat on calm days. It takes its name from the ever-so-cute poison-dart frogs found in the bordering rainforest. In mid-2007, a gringo developer was building a controversial housing complex behind the eastern section of the beach. Guards prevented the public from accessing that portion of the beach, which is separated from the other sandy stretch by a lush knoll. Construction had yet to begin behind the western section, which remained as glorious and accessible as always. As you can see, it is a popular destination on sunny days. Although not a fixture on the Bocas surfing map, Red Frog can occasionally put up decent lefts and rights, and it rarely draws the crowds found at Paunch, Bluff and other breaks.
